Kamal Haasan continues to receive backlash from the pro-Kannada activists after his “Kannada is born out of Tamil” remark during the audio launch of his upcoming film, Thug Life.
The actor has declined to issue a public apology for his comment, with the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) banning his films from premiering in the state.
Meanwhile, a pro-Kannada activist recently set Haasan’s photo on fire near Havanur Circle in Bengaluru on Friday as a protest against the actor.
The activist has been identified as Ravikumara (33), a Namma Karunada Yuva Sene member, and was immediately arrested for disrupting traffic and disturbing residents.
He was arrested, and a First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against him under Sections 270 and 283 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
The actor’s comment has sparked a new language row in Karnataka, with several organisations, including Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, starting to protest against him.
Following the backlash and protests, people started demanding to boycott his film, Thug Life. Haasan reacted to the backlash and boycott outside the DMK party headquarters in Chennai and claimed he would not apologise.
He told the media, “It is a democracy. I believe in law and justice. My love for Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Kerala is true. Nobody will suspect it except for those who have an agenda. I’ve been threatened before too, and if I am wrong, I would apologise; if I’m not, I won’t.”
Meanwhile, Karnataka ministers and activists have given Kamal Haasan an ultimatum to apologise to the public; only then will they allow his movie to be released in the state.
