Bollywood actress Kajol has responded to the long-standing interest in sequels to her classic films Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai as excitement for her next horror movie, Maa, grows.
In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, the actress used a combination of humour and introspection to put an end to all rumours.
Kajol acknowledged that although the prospect of a follow-up to the beloved 1995 romantic classic DDLJ, in which she costarred with Shah Rukh Khan, may seem alluring at first but the attraction of the original film resides in its definitiveness.
She explained, "Each film has a certain amount of magic that it produces. I can't imagine DDLJ 2. Like train ke baad kya hua? Kisi ko pata bhi nahin karna hai. (No one wants to know what happens after the train leaves the station). Do you really want to know whether they fought over diapers or not? You don't want to know."
She continued, "It's wonderful that it's left at the end. Train chali gayi (train left) THE END, brilliant. Now you can just leave it to imagination. They lived happily ever after." Her comments reinforce the belief that some stories are best left untouched, preserving the nostalgia and magic they hold for fans across generations.
On the topic of a sequel to Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, another Shah Rukh-Kajol-Karan Johar classic, the actress was equally candid.
She noted that the cultural context in which the film was made doesn’t quite align with today’s world. “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was great because it was a different set of people. It was a different world. You still had people who believed in that kind of love, eternal and once-in-a-lifetime kind of love. It is difficult in today's time to conceive a story that has the same belief patterns," she observed.

On the work front, Kajol is preparing for her most recent film project, the mythological supernatural thriller Maa.
Indraneil Sengupta, Ronit Roy, Jitin Gulati, and Kherin Sharma are also featured in the movie. She promises an intense and powerful performance as she navigates a world full of dark mythological forces as a fiercely protective mother in the project.
While Kajol stays firmly grounded in the legacy of her previous blockbusters, she continues to venture into new professional territory with Maa.
