One of South Korea’s most popular dating reality shows, Single’s Inferno, has returned with its fifth season, and with it, a fresh round of buzz both on and off the island.

Known for its glamorous contestants, competitive dating dynamics and surprise twists, the Netflix series has once again captured attention by introducing “game changer” contestants, designed to shake up relationships already forming among the cast. While the romantic drama continues to unfold, one contestant’s appearance has sparked a very different conversation among K-pop fans.

One of the newly introduced game changers is Lee Ha Eun, who is currently working as a dancer. Shortly after her appearance aired, viewers discovered that Ha Eun was previously a member of a pre-debut K-pop group called HOWZ, formed under HOW Entertainment.

Prior to her appearance on Single’s Inferno 5, HOWZ had followed a familiar pre-debut trajectory. The agency officially revealed the group’s full lineup and regularly shared content featuring the members, a standard practice used to build anticipation and establish a fanbase ahead of an official debut.

However, like many pre-debut groups in the K-pop industry, HOWZ’s activities eventually came to a sudden halt. Updates stopped without explanation, leaving fans uncertain about the group’s future. In such cases, silence does not always signal disbandment; many pre-debut teams pause activities while agencies restructure plans or prepare for a delayed debut.

For some time, fans held onto hope that HOWZ’s inactivity was temporary.

That uncertainty appears to have ended with Lee Ha Eun’s participation in Single’s Inferno 5. Given the rigid contractual expectations typically placed on idols, her decision to appear on a high-profile dating show strongly suggests that HOWZ has quietly disbanded.

While neither HOW Entertainment nor the former members have issued an official statement regarding the group’s status, industry observers note that idols actively preparing for debut are rarely permitted to join dating programs. As a result, Ha Eun’s appearance is widely being interpreted as confirmation that any remaining plans for HOWZ are no longer in place.
