Actress Janhvi Kapoor recently opened up about one of the most difficult times in her life when her mother, legendary actress unfortunately passed away in 2018.
The entire country was shocked and devastated by Sridevi's untimely death on February 24, 2018 in Dubai. When her mother's death became widely known, Janhvi's family had little time to grieve in private, which added to the tragedy for the 21-year-old Janhvi.
In an interview with Vogue Wedding Book, Janhvi discussed how she and her sister, Khushi Kapoor, handled the loss's aftermath. “My sister and I have never let them see the cracks, and because of this, people have felt they can throw mud at us, that we are not really human. That took empathy and sympathy completely out of the question,” she said.
She also conveyed her sorrow how the tragedy was sensationalized on social media. She said, “It’s unfathomable that it could become a meme. The loss is one thing but the damage that came after really made me cynical about human nature.”
The profound truth that grief is incredibly personal and manifests differently for each person is highlighted by Janhvi's words. While some people choose to retreat into themselves, others find comfort in continuing with their lives, but neither option lessens the intensity of the suffering.
The most important and possibly most obvious lesson for her has been that grieving shouldn't be influenced by what other people think. She reminds us that the most radical way to grieve is to do it authentically—privately, imperfectly, and without seeking approval. "Mourning is not for public consumption," she suggests.
Janhvi has been open about the effects of losing her mother over the years, admitting that it is still the most difficult experience she has ever had.
On the work front, Janhvi Kapoor is still juggling her personal life with her expanding Bollywood career. She most recently starred opposite Sidharth Malhotra in Param Sundari and will next be seen in Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari.
