Homebound, which stars Janhvi Kapoor, Ishaan Khatter, and Vishal Jethwa, is finally getting ready for its major theatrical release after months of international buzz.

Directed by Neeraj Ghaywan and backed by Karan Johar, this eagerly awaited film will be available for viewing on Netflix after it opens in theatres around the world on September 26, 2025.

Homebound has already made waves on the international scene and has screened at important events such as Cannes 2025 and the Toronto International Film Festival, making it a festival favourite.

The cast and crew were overcome with emotion when the movie received a nine-minute standing ovation at Cannes. Its moving narrative was praised by both reviewers and viewers, and Ishaan Khatter's performance was widely acclaimed as one of his most potent to date.

The announcement was announced by a recently released poster that featured Ishaan Khatter and Vishal Jethwa. The caption read, "No feeling is final," which is a subtly poignant hint at the emotional journey the film is expected to take.

Homebound also represents a major comeback for director Neeraj Ghaywan, who won awards at Cannes for his breakthrough picture Masaan almost ten years ago. But this time, his filmmaking path has taken an unusual turn, and Martin Scorsese is acting as a mentor.

Reflecting on this rare collaboration, Neeraj shared, “To have an icon like Mr Scorsese lend his name to Homebound is an honour beyond words. I’m deeply grateful to our co-producer Melita Toscan, who introduced us to him. Mr. Scorsese mentored us through the screenplay and multiple rounds of editing. He listened with care, understood the cultural context, and offered thoughtful, incisive notes each time. His kindness and commitment are extraordinary, and to have him nurture our film has been both a rare privilege and a profoundly humbling experience."

Homebound, which is being produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra, with co-producers Marijke deSouza and Melita Toscan Du Plantier, is proving to be a profoundly emotional examination of identity, resiliency, and the human spirit against the intricate background of contemporary India.
