Jackie Shroff opens up about Baby John's box office failure, says "Dukh hota hai par khud ke liye nahi, producers ke liye..."

Varun Dhawan and Atlee's highly awaited film Baby John underperformed at the box office, falling short of expectations. In a candid interview with India Today, Jackie Shroff, who portrayed the antagonist in the film, shared his thoughts on its disappointing performance. Reflecting on the experience, Jackie expressed how every project, regardless of its success, leaves a mark on him as an actor.

He elaborated that while success brings joy, failure serves as a lesson, pushing him to evolve and adapt. Despite the setback, Jackie reaffirmed his commitment to delivering impactful performances and emphasized the importance of perseverance in the film industry.

Jackie Shroff spoke about how deeply a film's failure affects producers, pointing out that they bear the most significant losses. he mentioned, "The producers do get affected. They put in a lot of money with trust in these projects. And when they do not recover it, that is sad. As actors, of course, you want to be liked for your performance, but you also want it to work well."

When questioned about whether the film's failure affects him personally, Jackie Shroff brushed it off, saying, "Dukh hota hai par khud ke liye nahi, producers ke liye (You do feel bad, but not for yourself, but for the producers). You tend to do your job with sincerity, but you also have to think about the people who have put in the money."

With a production budget exceeding ₹180 crore, Baby John, a remake of Atlee's Vijay-starrer Theri, struggled at the box office. Featuring Keerthy Suresh, Wamiqa Gabbi, Varun Dhawan, Jackie Shroff, and Rajpal Yadav, the film managed to earn just ₹60.4 crore globally, including ₹39.34 crore within India.

Meanwhile, Varun Dhawan is set to reunite with his Bawaal co-star Janhvi Kapoor in Karan Johar's upcoming project Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari. The film, also starring Sanya Malhotra, Rohit Saraf, and Maniesh Paul, is slated for a theatrical release on April 18, 2025.
