Directed by Subhash Ghai, Khal Nayak features Jackie Shroff as Inspector Ram Kumar Singh, Sanjay Dutt as a wanted criminal Balaram Prasad and Madhuri Dixit as Gangotri Devi. The film also stars Anupam Kher and Rakhee Gulzar in the key roles.
The film revolves around police inspectors who attempt to arrest the escaped criminal, Ballu. However, things took a dramatic turn when Ballu's escape taints Ram's name. His fiancée, Ganga, then decides to trap Ballu, but things get complicated when Ballu starts liking her.
The Hindi-language action crime film was written, directed, and produced by Subhash Ghai under his production company Mukta Arts Ltd. Khal Nayak emerged as a commercial hit. Over the years, the powerful performances of the star cast continue to impress the audiences, defining its status as an iconic film.
The film received 11 nominations, winning Best Female Playback Singer and Best Choreography at the Filmfare Awards. However, the film also faced a setback as Sanjay Dutt was arrested and imprisoned in connection with the 1993 Bombay bombings.
