After creating waves at the Cannes Film Festival, Neeraj Ghaywan’s directorial film, Homebound, has earned recognition at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The film has bagged the second runner-up spot in the prestigious International People’s Choice Award category.
Filmmaker Neeraj has recently taken to his Instagram to share the news. The runner-up announcement was made on Sunday during TIFF’s 50th edition. The filmmaker expressed his excitement over the news.
He shared a poster of the film and wrote in the caption, “Thrilled to announce that our film #HOMEBOUND just won the @TIFF_NET International People’s Choice Award as a second runner-up!!”
The filmmaker also expressed pride after the film was nominated and won alongside Park Chan-wook and Joachim Trier. TIFF featured a strong global line-up and a significant presence from Indian cinema.

TIFF 2025 features Indian titles, including Anurag Kashyap’s Bandar and Jitank Singh Gurjar’s Vimukt/In Search of The Sky.
Homebound features an ensemble cast including Ishaan Khatter, Janhvi Kapoor, Vishal Jethwa and others. Directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, the film is produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra, alongside co-producers Marijke de Souza and Melita Toscan Du Plantier. Martin Scorsese serves as the executive producer.
Homebound follows two childhood friends in North India pursuing their dream of joining the police, seeking dignity, exploring their struggles and aspirations. Their friendship strains as desperation grows in their quest.

Homebound will hit the theatres on September 26.
