Smriti Irani’s much-anticipated television comeback as Tulsi Virani in the second season of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi was expected to be a nostalgic treat for fans. The premiere episodes generated massive buzz online, with viewers thrilled to see Irani reprise her iconic role after years away from television. However, just weeks into its airing, the show has found itself at the center of controversy, as netizens express disappointment over the frequent use of Irani’s body double in key scenes.
According to a report by The Indian Express, Irani has been shooting many of her portions separately. For scenes involving group or family gatherings, the production has allegedly relied on a body double to stand in for her. This revelation has fueled frustration among fans, who took to Twitter to voice their concerns.
One user posted, “#KyunkiSaasBhiKabhiBahuThi #KSBKBT #KSBKBT2: Yeh Smriti poora season body double k saath toh nahi nikaal degi na? Barkha's character will b related with Pari ka sasuraal kya? Ekta showing what? EMA with samdhi ki family? Mera yeh tweet jinx karo.”
Another commented, “Strange that #smritiirani shoots separately and uses body double for most of her scenes. Why come for acting when not ready to take shots with the rest of the cast? That too, it’s not even a month since the serial is on air! Ridiculous!”
Similar sentiments echoed across the platform, with one viewer asking, “What’s the use of @smritiirani returning to TV if she’s going to use her body double in maximum of the scenes?” Another pointed out the noticeable editing: “Why are Smriti Irani Mam’s scenes in recent episodes too much edited with her only single clips and body double in family gathering scenes?”
Despite the criticism, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 continues to perform strongly in TRP ratings. In a recent interview with Times Now, Irani reflected on the show’s success, saying, “Humare show ne itihaas racha television ke liye… history doesn’t repeat itself; well, I guess we have defeated that. Itihaas humne dohraya.” She emphasized that reviving such an iconic series after decades was no small feat.
Produced by Ektaa Kapoor, the sequel features Amar Upadhyay, Hiten Tejwani, Shakti Anand, and Ketki Dave in pivotal roles. While the nostalgia factor has drawn audiences in, ongoing debates over the use of body doubles may test viewer loyalty in the coming weeks.
