Actress Huma Qureshi is back in the global spotlight, this time with Bayaan. The film, directed by Bikas Ranjan Mishra, had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2025, standing tall as the only Indian entry in the Discovery section.

For an actor who’s already made waves internationally with Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead and Gurinder Chadha’s Viceroy’s House, this felt like another significant milestone.

Huma walked the TIFF red carpet in a regal Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla outfit, Talking about the achievement, Huma said “It was one of those rare moments where everything slows down just enough to feel it all. Wearing Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla on the red carpet tonight felt like carrying a piece of home with me. Every thread, every detail held the weight of heritage, celebration, and a quiet kind of power."

"I felt honoured to stand here, representing a story that began so far from this carpet, so far from this global platform and yet found its way here. This is the power of storytelling. Of cinema. Grateful for Bayaan, this crew, for the journey, and for the grace of being exactly where I am, in this skin, in this voice, in this moment," she added.

Bayaan is a gritty police thriller, with Huma playing a woman trapped between power, religion, and a system that thrives on silencing voices. Beyond her intense role, she’s also an executive producer on the project — a reminder that she’s not just acting in bold stories, but also backing them.

The film isn’t stopping at Toronto. After TIFF, it’s headed to the Busan International Film Festival, taking Indian independent cinema further into global conversations.
