Hrithik Roshan's sister Sunaina Roshan recently opened up about her harrowing struggle with alcoholism, calling it one of the darkest phases of her life. In a candid conversation, she revealed how her addiction spiraled out of control, leading her to seek rehabilitation in a bid to reclaim her life.

Speaking to Siddharth Kannan, Sunaina shared how alcohol initially became a coping mechanism during an emotionally turbulent time. What started as an escape soon turned into dependency. “Alcohol is not a bad thing, but alcoholism is when you lose control. I was going through a very difficult time, emotionally vulnerable, and I wanted to numb my senses—so I drank,” she admitted.

Her addiction soon took over her life, and she found herself drinking excessively throughout the day. The repercussions were severe—blackouts, injuries, and a never-ending cycle of anxiety and panic attacks. “I have fallen off beds, injured myself, slipped from a chair—it was a very, very difficult phase. The cycle is vicious; you get a high, your brain goes numb, and the next day, you wake up with anxiety, panic attacks, and zero energy. The only way to feel better seems to be drinking again,” she explained.

Seeing her deteriorate, Sunaina’s parents, veteran filmmaker Rakesh Roshan and Pinkie Roshan, decided to step in. They took drastic measures, including revoking her financial privileges to prevent her from buying alcohol. “They took away my credit cards because they realised all my money was going into alcohol. They also distanced me from friends who might have encouraged my drinking,” she revealed.

Despite their intervention, the decision to heal had to come from within. Sunaina finally acknowledged that she needed help. “I sat my parents down and told them, ‘I want to get out of this.’ They suggested rehab, but I took the initiative and found a rehabilitation center myself,” she shared. She spent 28 difficult days in treatment, confronting her addiction head-on.

Sunaina hopes to inspire others who are battling addiction. “Recovery is possible. It’s tough, but you have to take the first step,” she concluded.
