Hrithik Roshan, one of Bollywood’s most celebrated actors, recently reminisced about his experience working with legendary superstar Rajinikanth in the 1986 film Bhagwan Dada. During a recent event celebrating his 25 years in the industry, Hrithik shared nostalgic memories of his childhood days on set, particularly the kindness and generosity of Rajinikanth.
At the event, Hrithik was shown an old photograph of himself as a child alongside Rajinikanth, a still from Bhagwan Dada. Reflecting on the moment, he admitted that as a child, he did not fully grasp the significance of sharing screen space with such a legendary actor. “As a child, I did not realize the importance of the moment, or that I was sharing space with such a legend,” he said.
However, looking back now, Hrithik acknowledges that if he were to act alongside Rajinikanth today, the experience would feel entirely different. “I will be very different if today I share screen space with him. I will realize the burden and the weight of the moment that I am sharing screen space with him,” Hrithik stated. He emphasized that with maturity and experience, he has come to appreciate the magnitude of the opportunity he had back then.
Rajinikanth’s Generosity on Set
Hrithik also fondly recalled Rajinikanth’s kindness towards him during filming. Despite being a superstar even at that time, Rajinikanth was incredibly patient and caring towards young Hrithik, making sure he never felt nervous on set.
Hrithik shared a heartwarming anecdote about how Rajinikanth would take responsibility whenever Hrithik made a mistake during shooting. “Whenever I messed up a shot, my grandpa used to cut the shot. And Rajini sir used to take the blame. He would say, ‘Sorry, sorry, sorry, my fault.’ But it was my fault.”
This simple but profound gesture left a lasting impression on Hrithik. “Every single time I made a mistake, Rajini sir took the blame so that I, that child, would not get conscious. So it was incredible,” he added, expressing his gratitude for the Tamil superstar’s selflessness.
The Making of Bhagwan Dada
Bhagwan Dada was an important film in Hrithik Roshan’s journey. Directed by J. Om Prakash, the film starred Rajinikanth, Rakesh Roshan, and Sridevi in key roles. Hrithik, who was just a child at the time, played the role of the young boy raised by Rajinikanth’s character. The film revolved around themes of redemption and heroism, and Hrithik’s performance as a child artist was well-received.
The movie was also significant for Hrithik’s father, Rakesh Roshan, who produced it. Being on set with his father and working alongside a megastar like Rajinikanth was an invaluable learning experience for Hrithik.
Hrithik’s Journey from Bhagwan Dada to Bollywood Stardom
Hrithik Roshan officially debuted as a leading actor in Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai in 2000, a film that turned him into an overnight sensation. Over the years, he has delivered stellar performances in films like Koi Mil Gaya, Dhoom 2, Jodhaa Akbar, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Super 30, and War, establishing himself as one of Bollywood’s most bankable stars.
