Peaky Blinders begins a new chapter with the next generation of Shelbys

The Shelby family saga is far from over — in fact, it’s just getting started again. Fans of Peaky Blinders have long speculated about what comes next, and now, creator Steven Knight has confirmed the news we've all been hoping for: Peaky Blinders is officially returning to our screens with two brand-new sequel series.

As per Deadline, commissioned by Netflix and the BBC, both series will each run for six hour-long episodes and pick up where the upcoming Peaky Blinders film — currently in post-production — leaves off. That film is expected to arrive next year, setting the stage for what Knight calls the “new generation” of Shelbys.

Set in 1953, the sequels will take us into a post-war Birmingham still recovering from the devastation of WWII.

According to the official description: “Britain, 1953. After being heavily bombed in WWII, Birmingham is building a better future out of concrete and steel... This is a city of unprecedented opportunity and danger: with the Shelby family right at its blood-soaked heart.”

As expected, the details are being kept tightly under wraps — including the cast — but we do know that Peaky star Cillian Murphy is back onboard as an executive producer, along with Steven Knight himself.

The new chapters will also be filmed at Knight’s own Digbeth Loc. Studios in Birmingham, keeping the story grounded in its iconic hometown.

Knight couldn’t hide his excitement: “I’m thrilled to be announcing this new chapter in the Peaky Blinders story… The new generation of Shelbys have taken the wheel and it will be a hell of a ride.”

Netflix’s Mona Qureshi echoed the enthusiasm: “We couldn’t be more excited to be embarking on a new chapter of Peaky Blinders... Along with our global audience, we are ready to be captivated anew!”

BBC Drama boss Lindsay Salt added: “This game-changing show made a huge impact when it first came to our screens 12 years ago... There’s plenty of drama for Peaky fans to look forward to!”

With the feature film on the horizon and two series in the works, the Peaky universe is set to expand like never before — and it looks like fans around the world are in for one wild, Shelby-style ride.
