‘My Secret Santa’ delivers warmth and holiday cheer, with Alexandra Breckenridge giving a relatable performance. But its far-fetched premise and predictable plot keep it from being memorable.

‘My Secret Santa,’ directed by Mike Rohl, began streaming on Netflix from 3rd December and stars Alexandra Breckenridge, Ryan Eggold, Tia Mowry, Diana Maria Riva, and Andy Magee.

‘My Secret Santa’ is one of those movies that instantly makes you feel cozy and festive, even if the story is predictable. This festive film is a holiday rom com that leans fully into Christmas cheer. It doesn’t aim to be profound, but it knows exactly what it wants to be: a warm, feel-good story about family, love, and a touch of chaos.

Getting into the holiday spirit

The snowy ski resort, twinkling lights, and holiday decorations immediately put you in the festive mood. It’s the kind of movie that makes you want to curl up with a blanket and hot cocoa and just enjoy the season. There is nothing exceptional about this film, but the gentle pace and cheerful tone make it an easy watch.

Taylor’s secret Santa adventure

The story follows Taylor (Alexandra Breckenridge), a single mom juggling life, money problems, and her daughter’s dream of attending a snowboarding camp. When she lands a seasonal job at a ski resort, she discovers she can only get the position by disguising herself as an elderly Santa—“Hugh Mann.”

This leads to hilarious moments, especially when she meets Matthew (Ryan Eggold), the charming resort manager and son of the owner of the ski resort. Balancing her secret Santa identity with her real life gives the film its heart, with a mix of laughs, awkward situations, and festive magic. The film also touches on themes of perseverance and believing in yourself, making Taylor’s journey feel meaningful even amid the comedy.

Fun but extremely far-fetched

The movie works best when it doesn’t take itself too seriously. Some parts are clearly far-fetched—like how easily Taylor pulls off her Santa disguise or how everyone falls for it—but that’s part of the fun. It’s more about the spirit of giving, family warmth, and festive romance than strict realism. The story is simple, and the stakes aren’t high, but it delivers enough charm to make you smile. It won’t keep you on the edge of your seat, but it’s exactly the kind of lighthearted escape people crave during the holidays. Even when it leans on clichés, the film has enough heart to keep viewers invested and engaged.

Relatable characters

Alexandra Breckenridge is at the centre of the film. She makes Taylor feel real—tired, determined, and deeply devoted to her daughter. Her transformation into Santa is surprisingly convincing, with funny gestures, subtle expressions, and a believable voice change. Ryan Eggold as Matthew is naturally charming without being overbearing, and their chemistry is easy to watch. The supporting cast that includes Tia Mowry as Natasha and Diana Maria Riva as Doralee adds humor and tension, even if a few characters feel a bit underdeveloped. Overall, the performances are serviceable and suited to this type of holiday rom com. Each actor seems invested, which makes the characters feel alive.

Warm but not memorable

‘My Secret Santa’ isn’t a masterpiece, but it doesn’t need to be. It’s a light holiday film that delivers laughs, romance, and heartfelt family moments. If you’re looking for something simple to watch with some festive spirit and zero stress, this movie fits the bill. The moments of genuine connection between Taylor and her daughter, and her little triumphs along the way, make it a sweet watch. It’s cozy, enjoyable, and perfect for a quiet night in with hot chocolate, leaving you with a smile and that warm, fuzzy holiday feeling. Set your expectations low, and you’ll have a cozy, comforting film to enjoy.
