The trailer for Michael, the upcoming biopic on music legend Michael Jackson starring his nephew Jaafar Jackson, has taken the internet by storm.
The Lionsgate-produced trailer received an incredible 116.2 million views worldwide in the first 24 hours of its release, sparking a tremendous reaction from both fans and industry observers.
According to Collider, the Michael trailer has now become the most-viewed trailer for a music biopic in history. It also broke Lionsgate’s own record for the most views in 24 hours, surpassing John Wick: Chapter 4 by 50 percent within just six hours of release.
The teaser is packed with glimpses of Jackson’s mesmerizing dance moves and intimate moments from his life.
The one-minute teaser captures Jaafar's iconic stage presence as well as his more private side, giving viewers a compelling look at him taking on the role of the King of Pop.
Quincy Jones, the renowned producer who worked with Jackson on several albums, including the iconic Thriller, is portrayed by actor Kendrick Sampson. In a poignant detail, the teaser features the two working together on the 1982 hit record, paying tribute to Jones, who passed away last November.
“I know you’ve been waiting a long time for this. The tracks are made, the songs are ready. Let’s take it from the top. … This is your story,” Sampson says as a montage of Jackson’s journey unfolds on screen.
