Hollywood action icon Arnold Schwarzenegger is all set to reprise one of his most iconic roles as King Conan. He will reportedly team up with director Christopher McQuarrie, who will write and direct the film for 20th Century Studios.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Christopher will direct the project that would see Arnold return to the sword-and-sorcery role he first played in the 1982 fantasy film 'Conan the Barbarian' and its 1984 sequel. Both movies were based on the character created by author Robert E Howard.
Christopher is known to direct the four most recent entries in Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible franchise.
During the Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus, Ohio, over the weekend, Arnold teased the project, describing the film's premise to the assembled crowd.
The actor said, "It's a great story where Conan was 40 years king and he gets complacent, and now he gets forced out of the kingdom, slowly."
He further noted that the story would involve "all kinds of madness and violence and magic and creatures."
The 77-year-old actor stated that the project could be accomplished on a far larger scale than its predecessors thanks to contemporary visual effects technology and studio resources.
The project's journey to the screen has been lengthy. The character's rights were formerly owned by Universal Pictures in the early 2010s, when Chris Morgan, the writer of Fast & Furious, created a 'Unforgiven'-style narrative for Schwarzenegger's elder Conan.

In addition to King Conan, Arnold Schwarzenegger disclosed that he has been in talks about a potential comeback to the Predator franchise with filmmaker Dan Trachtenberg, who brought it back to life with Prey in 2022 and Predator: Badlands last year.
He also revealed that he received a script for "Commando 2" in which he would reprise his role as Colonel John Matrix from the action movie from 1985.
