Himesh Reshammiya’s journey in the Indian music and film industry is nothing short of dramatic—marked by phenomenal highs, humbling lows, and a compelling comeback that redefined his place in showbiz. As the actor-singer turns 52 today, let us look at his high and lows in his career over the years.

Himesh's musical career

In the early 2000s, Reshammiya made his debut as a music director. Salman Khan's Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya and Tere Naam were his breakthrough hits, and the public responded emotionally to his songs. But with the release of Aashiq Banaya Aapne in 2005, Himesh shot to fame. The title track, which featured his trademark cap and nasal singing style, became a cultural phenomenon.

His unconventional voice, fused with catchy hooks and electronic beats, brought a new flavor to Bollywood music. Soon, he was belting out one chartbuster after another—Jhalak Dikhlaja, Tera Suroor, Hookah Bar, Tandoori Nights and more. His success was meteoric, making him one of the most sought-after composers and singers of his time.

Stepping into acting career

Emboldened by his musical acclaim, Himesh ventured into acting with Aap Kaa Surroor: The Real Luv Story in 2007. Though the film did decent business, his acting skills were widely panned. Over the next few years, he continued experimenting with films like Karzzzz and Radio, but none could replicate his musical magic.

His popularity declined noticeably during this phase. A major fall from grace resulted from the criticism of his acting choices, the sameness of his musical style, and the excessive exposure. The once-unfailing hitmaker began to fall from the top of the charts and progressively fade away from the public eye.

Stronger comeback as a singer

However, true to his resilient spirit, Himesh never quit. He continued working behind the scenes, honing his craft, and slowly re-emerged with a new sound. His stint as a judge on reality shows like Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and Indian Idol helped him reconnect with audiences. But his true comeback moment came with the 2020 film Happy Hardy and Heer, where the song Teri Meri Kahani became a sleeper hit—especially on social media platforms.

Reshammiya further surprised critics and fans by launching his own music label, Himesh Reshammiya Melodies, in 2021. Through it, he introduced fresh voices and returned to producing melodious, heartfelt tracks like Tere Bagairr and Sanseinn, showcasing a mature evolution in his music.
