Gauhati University students paid tribute to Zubeen Garg

Zubeen Garg, the most renowned cultural figure in Assam, passed away earlier today in Singapore. However, Gauhati University has expressed its profound sadness over his passing. The university called Zubeen Garg’s passing "an irreparable loss to the people of Assam and to music lovers across the world."

The official Instagram handle of the University of Gauhati also shared a video from the campus where several students gathered to pay a touching tribute to Zubeen Garg. In the video, the students were heard singing Zubeen Garg’s song Mayabini. Several students were also spotted crying on the floor.

The video was captioned, “A voice that became the soul of Assam… Students of Gauhati University came together in song, their voices carrying the timeless “Mayabini” as a rare tribute to Zubeen Garg.”

The caption continued, “He may have left us, but his melodies will live on: forever inspiring, forever binding us in love and memories. A sad day, a dark one!”

Meanwhile, Vice Chancellor Professor Nani Gopal Mahanta called Zubeen Garg “the heartbeat of Assam” and “the voice of the youth and the old alike.”

He tweeted, “The untimely demise of legendary artist Zubeen Garg is an irreparable loss for the people of Assam. With the passing of heartthrob Zubeen Garg, the people of Assam have lost a priceless treasure of the state. This loss is irreparable.”

The tweet continued, “The demise of Zubeen Garg is an irreparable and immeasurable loss for the people of Assam; his voice will forever remain in our hearts.”
