Jitendra Kumar, Neena Gupta and Raghubir Yadav starrer Amazon Prime Video series Panchayat has created a huge fan base with its quirky dialogues, comedy sequences and entertaining drama.
Penned by Chandan Roy, who also portrays the iconic character Vikas, the series has become one of the most beloved web series with characters including Pradhan Ji, Bhushan, and Binod receiving critical acclaim and sparkline memes. The series holds a special place in fans’ hearts, which led to the announcement of Season 4.
Simplicity
Panchayat is set in a village and documents the simplicity of villagers' lives and their daily life problems, like a missing goat, an awkward marriage proposal, a battle over election posters or the Swachh Bharat Mission scam. The problems have been documented with sharp writing, witty rumours, and emotional resonance, which kept the viewers glued to their seats.
Relatable characters
Panchayat features characters that instantly connect with the viewers. Whether Abhishek Tripathi, the city-bred engineer, is reluctantly posted as the village secretary, or Manju Devi and Brij Bhushan Dubey, fans can easily relate to the struggles of each character.
Additionally, characters like Bhushan and Binod stir up mischief and meddle in village affairs, and also won the hearts of the viewers.
A stellar ensemble that feels effortless
Panchayat notably features strong cast members who have portrayed their characters effortlessly and brilliantly, making the series unforgettable. Jitendra Kumar perfectly brings Abhishek’s internal dilemmas to the screen, while Neena Gupta and Raghubir Yadav bring the story to life with their natural charm and on-screen chemistry.
Meanwhile, writer and actor Chandan Roy, who played the role of Vikas and Faisal Malik aka Prahlad, brought warmth and wit to their roles. However, Sanvikaa’s character Rinki continues to evolve, adding a gentle presence to the story.
Memorable memes
Panchayat filled the internet with several memes which the writers never intended to. Simple yet Quirky dialogues like Bhushan’s “Meeting! Meeting!” or his sarcastic takedown, “Dekh raha hai na Binod, kaise angrezi bol ke baat ko ghumaya jaa raha hai,” have now become iconic memes.
Additionally, Vikas’s lines like “Sachiv ji, aap toh gajab aadmi nikle,” have now become an everyday part of fans’ conversation. The witty dialogues never felt forced and easily became real, recognisable and relatable.

Phulera feels real, not romanticised
Panchayat is set in the village of Phulera feels like a real place, but the series is actually filmed in Mahodiya Village, Sehore, Madhya Pradesh. The small details, like dusty streets, an old Panchayat office, tea stalls, and election posters, make the place feel more authentic.
However, what makes the series more captivating is that the makers didn’t try to make the village look perfect or overly dramatic; instead, they retain the rawness and the small things that make it feel true to life as well as relatable to audiences.
Panchayat is created by Deepak Kumar Mishra and Chandan Kumar, and written by Chandan Kumar. The new season is directed by Deepak Kumar Mishra and Akshat Vijaywargiya and produced by The Viral Fever.
Fans’ favourites include Jitendra Kumar, Neena Gupta, Raghubir Yadav, Faisal Malik, Chandan Roy, Sanvikaa, Durgesh Kumar, Sunita Rajwar, and Pankaj Jha, who are all set to reprise their characters in the new season.
Panchayat Season 4 is scheduled to release on July 2.
