Exclusive: Vishnu Manchu says will give a pay cheque to Mohanlal and Prabhas who didn’t charge a rupee for Kannappa: "They deserve it"

Telugu actor and producer Vishnu Manchu is currently promoting his ambitious upcoming film Kannappa, a mega-scale mythological project that has already created buzz with its stellar cast. Featuring special appearances by three of Indian cinema’s biggest stars—Prabhas, Mohanlal, and Akshay Kumar—the film promises a grand cinematic experience rooted in mythology, action, and emotion.

In a recent interview with Moneycontrol, Vishnu Manchu opened up about how he managed to bring these powerhouse performers on board—and the personal bonds and goodwill that played a significant role in making it happen.

“When I decided to make the movie, I approached all of them,” Vishnu said. “Mr. Akshay Kumar didn’t know me personally—he had only heard of my father. But he graciously accepted.” He went on to highlight how Akshay Kumar's involvement is even more significant because Kannappa marks Akshay’s debut in Telugu cinema.

While Akshay came on board out of goodwill and respect for his father Mohan Babu, Vishnu revealed that the contributions of Prabhas and Mohanlal were even more personal. “Mohanlal sir and Prabhas are family, so they came on board without hesitation,” he shared.

Despite their refusal to take payment, Vishnu emphasised his sense of responsibility toward them. “Once the movie is complete, it’s my responsibility to hand them a cheque, because they deserve it,” he said. He explained that while both actors offered their time and talent out of love and trust, he remains committed to recognizing their contribution in a meaningful way. “They haven’t asked, but I will give them what they deserve,” Vishnu reiterated.

The mythological film Kannappa is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated Indian films, not just for its grandeur and visual scale but also for the rare collaboration of cinema giants from across industries.

Produced under Vishnu Manchu’s banner, the film reflects not just his vision, but also the bonds and goodwill he shares within the film fraternity.

Kannappa is going to release on June 27.
