Daboo Malik has launched his new book

Veteran music composer Daboo Malik, who launched his first book, 'Never Too Late: A Daboo Malik Odyssey,' on Thursday (July 24), spoke exclusively with Moneycontrol in a freewheeling chat about the new venture, his Bollywood career and his son Amaal Malik's comments against uncle Anu Malik.

Now Daboo Malik has responded to his son Amaal Malik's recent remarks about their family dynamics, specifically about his elder brother and veteran music director Anu Malik.

Daboo said Amaal could have avoided it, and it was not necessary to bring up such personal things in the public domain. He feels that everyone has their share of struggles and nobody has the time to lend a helping hand in this competitive world.

Earlier Amaal had alleged in his interaction with Sidharth Kanan that his uncle Anu Malik was unfair to his father Daboo, claiming he didn’t support him during crucial moments of his career.

Now in an exclusive chat with Moneycontrol, Dabboo offered clarity and calm to the issue, acknowledging his son's sentiments but also offering a more reflective take.

"Amaal has addressed that thing from a very personal point of view; that was not needed. What happens is that over the years when you are struggling, your dinner conversations get embedded in the minds of the children. You don't even realize that. And when they pop up in their head later, 20 years later, they have already construed ki ye mere daddy ke saath hua tha. And woh zaroori nahi hai ki bola jaye.
Anu Malik has worked so hard in his life," said Daboo, addressing the issue. "What happens is that over the years, when you're struggling, your conversations and mindset get embedded in your children's minds without you even realizing it. And 20 years later, when these thoughts pop up in their heads, they've already constructed their own narrative. It's not necessary that they'll follow the same path or that anyone owes them anything.)

Nobody will hold your hand in this competitive world

He further said that there are no guarantees or handouts in the competitive music industry, and it is unrealistic to expect someone, even a close family member, to guarantee stardom.

He also spoke about how expectations and disappointments shaped both his and his son Amaal's perspectives: "And in this competitive world, who has the time? La main tera haath pakadta hoon tujhe main superstar banata hoon. Aisa kuch hota nahi hai; aisa kabhi hota nahi hai. I think it is a competitive world and everybody is doing their job. And everybody is trying to salvage their own lives; who is there sitting down to help you? You are expecting ki mere bade bhai mere liye kuch karenge ya koi aur kuch mere liye karega. Jaise ye mere mind mein embed ho gayi, aise bache ke mind mein bhi embed ho gayi aur usne turn diya aur usne direct ilzam laga diya, which was not necessary. Because I think everyone has their own life; they have their own struggle. They really work hard towards achieving whatever they want to. I am a happy father."

(In this competitive world, everyone is busy trying to make a living and struggling with their own lives. No one's sitting around waiting to help you become a superstar. Everyone is trying to salvage their own lives. You're not going to find someone holding your hand and making you a success. Everyone has their own life and their own struggles, and they work hard to achieve their goals. As a parent, I think it's essential to recognize that our conversations and mindset can shape our children's thoughts and expectations. Sometimes, they might directly blame or expect things that aren't necessary. I'm a happy father," he added.

About Amaal cutting ties with family

He also spoke about Amaal Malik's post talking about cutting ties with his family and Daboo accepted his own shortcomings as a parent.

He admitted that in focusing too much on nurturing his other son Armaan Malik's singing career, he overlooked Amaal's ambitions.

"Hum yeh bhool gaye ki hamara dusra beta bhi superstar banna chahta tha."

Their reconciliation, however, was heartfelt and intense. "Uske 15 din tak toh main uski baahon mein hi tha... 14 din tak humne itni baatein clear ki." He also revealed that today, Amaal and Armaan are the ones encouraging him to step into the spotlight.

Amaal and Armaan were seen at the book launch event in Mumbai on Thursday with their dad, Daboo Malik.
