In a bizarre case of life imitating art, a young engineer from Telangana, Rapa Sai Prashanth, tried to cheat the corporate system by impersonation—taking inspiration from the Tamil film Dragon. His plan landed him a job at Infosys, but only for 15 days.
According to a Times of India report, Prashanth applied for the job through a portal and was reviewed by Shiva Prakash, a manager at Sampradaa Software Technologies.
His documents were forwarded to Infosys, where he was selected based on a virtual interview. However, instead of attending the interview himself, Prashanth had another person pose as him. The plan worked temporarily, and Infosys issued him an offer letter on January 20, 2025.
Things started falling apart after he joined. His voice didn't match the one from the interview, and he struggled to communicate effectively—raising red flags among his colleagues. Though he had appeared fluent in English during the interview, his on-the-job communication skills didn’t match up.
The HR team launched an internal investigation. Upon comparing screenshots from the interview with Prashanth's real identity, they confirmed the deception. “Prashanth is from Telangana. After he was sacked, he went to Hyderabad. However, he insists on being paid for 15 days of work,” a police officer told TOI.

Efforts are underway to locate him.
A case has been registered against Prashanth under Sections 318 and 319 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with relevant provisions of the IT Act.
This isn’t the first such case. In 2017, two individuals in Gurugram were arrested for impersonating candidates in a teacher recruitment test. Similarly, in 2016, twelve impersonators were caught during the Uttarakhand Ayurveda Pre-Medical Test. In 2012, the AIIMS PG entrance exam saw a tech-savvy cheating racket where candidates used Bluetooth and mobile scanners to receive answers.
