Kangana Ranaut's starrer film Emergency had high hopes but it didn’t perform well at the box office. The film sparked controversy and its release was also postponed due to pending certification of the Central Board of Film Certification. The film received mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike.
Fans have been waiting to watch the film on the streaming platform, and Netflix has surprised the viewers with the early release. The political drama was scheduled to hit the streaming platform on March 17.
However, Emergency gets released on March 14 on Holi. The film is now available to stream on Netflix. The streaming platform announced the news and wrote, "The gripping story of power and peril. Watch Emergency, now on Netflix."
Kangana previously took to her Instagram Story to announce the OTT release of her latest film. She reshared a photo collage made by fans. The collage featured Kangana and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. She kept the caption very simple by adding just the release date of her film.
Kangana revealed that Emergency will be released on 17th March on Netflix. The film was originally scheduled to be released on September 6, 2024, however, it hit the theatres on January 17, 2025. The film managed to collect ₹21.65 crore in India.
The film faced multiple delays, censor issues, protests and accusations of misrepresentation of the facts. In 2024 August, the film received a legal notice from SGPC (Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee) with the allegation of misrepresentation of the character and history of Sikhs. The community also asked the makers to remove some of the objectionable scenes that allegedly depicted "anti-Sikh" sentiments.
