Bigg Boss OTT 2 winner and Youtuber, Elvish Yadav was recently booked by National Commission for Women (NCW) for making racist remarks against actor and Bigg Boss 18 contestant Chum Darang.
The Arunachal Pradesh State Women's Commission (APSCW) strongly condemned the YouTuber's racist comments towards Chum during a podcast, which subsequently drew harsh criticism on social media.
Elvish then issued an apology after he was summoned at the NCW on Wedesday, April 22. Speaking to ANI, Elvish said that his comments were misunderstood, adding that with age comes maturity, and many people had misinterpreted the use of the word "Chum," failing to grasp his true intent.
As he apologised, Elvish also said, “I agree that if people are bothered by my statements, I must have said something wrong. In regard to this case, I went inside and apologised. I have nothing personal against anyone, nor do I hold grudges. I have submitted my apology to all the people I have hurt, especially Chum. I don’t even know her personally. But my apologies to everyone who has been hurt by my remarks.”
For those uninformed, during a podcast with Rajat Dalal of Bigg Boss 18 in February, Elvish Yadav made racist comments about Chum, making fun of her name, ethnicity, and appearance. He even made fun of her role in Gangubai Kathiawadi.
Upset by the comment, Chum reacted angrily and slammed him for making fun of her name and identity. She then approached the Arunachal Pradesh State Women's Commission (APSCW) which indeed supported her position, denouncing his remarks and calling on the National Commission for Women (NCW) to act strongly, emphasising how they create insecurity for Northeastern women in Bollywood.
