Actor-director Pradeep Ranganathan, who last impressed audiences with Dragon, is back in front of the camera with Dude. The trailer, unveiled on Thursday, offers a glimpse into a breezy yet emotional coming-of-age story. Pradeep plays Agan, a man whose singlehood has long defined his identity, until love and rejection force him to look inward.

In the trailer, Agan is introduced as a young man navigating the highs and lows of modern relationships. His chemistry with Mamitha Baiju’s Kural, his “mama ponnu” (cousin-like match), drives the heart of the story. The two work as event organisers, and their camaraderie forms the film’s comedic core. What starts as playful banter slowly evolves into a story about unrequited love and personal growth.

The visuals are packed with colour and energy, set against a backdrop of laughter, awkward moments, and relatable heartbreak. Pradeep’s performance captures the charm and confusion of a man trying to make sense of love that doesn’t love him back. Mamitha, on the other hand, balances her role with grace and subtlety, adding emotional texture to the lighthearted tone.

The trailer’s pacing, quick cuts between Agan’s romantic highs and lonely lows, keeps the tone lively. Director Keerthiswaran seems to have found a balance between humor and introspection, using Pradeep’s signature eccentricity to explore themes of self-worth and acceptance. The comedic beats never overshadow the emotional core; instead, they give the story breathing room to feel honest and grounded.

Produced by Naveen Yerneni and Y Ravi Shankar under Mythri Movie Makers, with Anil Yerneni as co-producer, Dude boasts a strong supporting cast featuring R Sarath Kumar, Hridhu Haroon, Rohini, Aishwarya Sharma, and Dravid Selvam. Sai Abhyankkar handles the music, Niketh Bommi serves as cinematographer, Barath Vikraman edits, and Latha Naidu leads production design. Stunt choreography is by Yannick Ben and Dinesh Subbarayan.

The film hits theatres on October 17, coinciding with the releases of Mari Selvaraj’s Bison: Kaalamaadan and Harish Kalyan’s Diesel. With its blend of humor, relatability, and heart, Dude looks set to offer audiences a fresh take on love, loneliness, and the messy beauty of figuring yourself out.
