Drishyam 3 release: Jeethu Joseph clarifies timeline; no simultaneous release for Mohanlal and Ajay Devgn versions

Director Jeethu Joseph has put an end to the swirling speculations around the release strategy of Drishyam 3. Social media had been buzzing with claims that the Malayalam, Hindi and Telugu versions would arrive on the same day, especially after a screenshot of a chat between Jeethu and a fan began doing the rounds.

In that exchange, a user asked whether Panorama Studios acquiring the theatrical rights meant a simultaneous release. Jeethu reportedly replied, “No… we will release first after 2 months only they can release.”

While the authenticity of the screenshot is still to be formally verified, the director’s latest comments back the same timeline.

Jeethu, in an interview with Pinkvilla, confirmed that the makers of the Hindi and Telugu remakes had indeed asked him whether all versions could release together. He added that although discussions happened, the decision was ultimately clear: the Malayalam original will arrive first.

Jeethu stated, “The makers of the Hindi and Telugu versions have asked whether we can release the film simultaneously.” But with the schedules, production pipeline, and narrative requirements differing across languages, the team decided the remakes would follow roughly two months after the Malayalam version hits theatres.

This clarification aligns with the franchise’s earlier pattern too. The Ajay Devgn-led Hindi adaptation and the Telugu version starring Venkatesh have traditionally released long after the Malayalam originals, allowing the remakes to build their own momentum.

Meanwhile, Mohanlal is juggling Drishyam 3 with another significant project. The superstar recently appeared on the sets of his daughter Vismaya Mohanlal’s debut film Thudakkam. Though not officially confirmed, reports suggest he will be seen in a cameo role. Videos shared by fan pages show him visiting the Kuttikkanam shooting location. According to reports, he has been managing morning shoots for Thudakkam and night schedules for Drishyam 3, both happening in the Idukki district.

Jeethu Joseph, on the other hand, is coming off his last directorial, Mirage, starring Asif Ali and Aparna Balamurali, which received mixed reviews. With Drishyam 3, the pressure and expectations are high, especially as both the original franchise and its Hindi adaptation remain among the most successful Indian thrillers of the last decade.
