Actress Divya Dutta appears to be having a great time right now. Divya has been enjoying the success of what is currently the highest-grossing movie of 2025 since she began the year with a strong performance as the cunning Soyarabai in Chhaava, Laxman Utekar's historical drama starring Vicky Kaushal.

“I knew Chhaava would do well, but the euphoria it received was heartening,” she tells Hindustan Times. With an exciting lineup ahead, she adds, “2024 and 2025 have been such great years for me work-wise. Now I’m even debuting in Telugu.”

Mayasabha, a political drama on SonyLIV that was directed by Deva Katta, is her eagerly awaited Telugu debut. The show, which is set in the 1970s and 1980s, centres on the rivalry between two politicians, played by Aadhi Pinisetty and Chaitanya Rao, Rami Reddy and Krishna Naidu. Divya portrays Iravati Basu, a strong political leader who maintains her position in a world ruled by men.

“I believe this role is absolutely apt to begin my innings in Telugu. What better than to play a woman in politics who holds her own while facing off men?”

Divya was captivated by the layered writing and the strength of her character. “I was immediately drawn to the way Deva Katta narrated Mayasabha to me... Everything from the way she exchanges looks to the way she stands her own has been fleshed out so well, it was a ball to play her.”

Speaking warmly of her co-stars, she shares, “Aadhi and I got along immensely from the moment I met him... It took a while for Chaitanya to open up to me, but we got there eventually.” She also relished working alongside Nassar, saying, “I’m an absolute fan girl.”

Having long admired South Indian cinema, Divya is thrilled to be entering that space. “I’ve already put my footsteps here and would love to belong because the South is coming out with such amazing projects.”

Now in a career phase where she's embracing more substantial parts, she reflects, “Now that I’ve eaten roti, I’m craving some dessert.”
