Taarak Mehta's Disha Vakani with Asit Kumar Modi

Fans of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah's Dayaben aka Disha Wakani were in for a surprise. She made a rare public appearance and was seen celebrating Rakhi with the show's producer Asit Kumar Modi and his family.

Asit Kumar Modi posted a lengthy video of Disha trying Rakhi on his wrist, performing the arti and other rituals as the two celebrate Raksha Bandhan.

Disha Vakani  kept her look simple in a beige silk saree as she celebrated the festival with her rakhi brother Asit Kumar Modi. She tied the rakhi to Asit Modi and also performed all the rituals.

In the heartwarming video shared by Asit Kumar Modi himself, Disha is seen celebrating festival with his family. She also touches Asit and his wife's feet after the rituals. They also enjoyed sweets and posed for pictures.

Another rare sight was the presence of Disha's kids with her.

Many fans took to the comment section and asked her to return to the show soon.

"Missing her presence in new episodes and seeing her after a long time," wrote one user.

Disha left the show in 2017 while she was pregnant with her first child. And she has not returned since then.

Asit Kumar Modi has also not found a better replacement for Disha to play the iconic Daya.

In an earlier interview with Moneycontrol, he told us that it is not easy to find a new face for Daya and fill the void left by Disha.

“I'm often asked when Dayaben will return to the show. I've never shown that the character has exited the show. People still remember Dayaben fondly, even after 7-8 years. It's a tough question for me, as replacing Disha Vakani would be difficult. Any new artist would struggle to fill the void she left. It's not easy for women to balance work and family after marriage. I still pray that she returns to the show. We're serious about bringing Dayaben back, and as soon as she returns, Popatlal's wedding will happen. Dayaben's presence is essential for Popatlal's wedding," he told us.
