Popular sitcom Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has once again become the focus of internet rumours, this time due to the abrupt disappearance of two of its most adored characters, Jethalal (played by veteran actor Dilip Joshi) and Babita Ji (played by Munmun Dutta).

There were many speculations that if the actors had left the show because of their conspicuous absence from recent episodes.

However, in an exclusive interview from Moneycontrol, showrunner and producer Asit Kumar Modi has decisively put the rumours to rest.

In response to the continuous discourse, he urged more thoughtful and constructive participation, particularly at a time when false information circulates quickly on the internet.

“Aapko maloom hai aaj ka social media kaisa hai? Social media itna negative ho chuka hai ki aap positive soch rakhni chahiye. Aur Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah ekdum positive show hai. Family show hai, khushiyan deta hai. To uske baare mein to kuch logon ko positive sochne rakhni chahiye. Yeh nahi ki kuch bhi chhoti-chhoti baaton par kuch bhi rumour faila do, kuch bhi anachahiye baat kar lo. Woh achhi baat nahi hai [As you know, social media these days has become so negative that you should try to keep a positive mindset. And Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah is a completely positive show. It’s a family show that spreads happiness. So some people should think positively about it. It’s not right to spread rumours over small things or say anything inappropriate. That’s not a good thing,"] He said.

He made it clear that the actors remain a part of the team and attributed their temporary absence to personal matters.“Lekin kuch nahi hai, sab log hamari team ka part hai. Kuch unke personal reasons the to us time nahi the. To aise koi baat nahi hai [“But there’s nothing like that, everyone is part of our team. They were not present at that time due to some personal reasons. So, there’s no such issue.”] he added, firmly quashing all speculation.

The director also said he appreciates audience feedback and reiterated that it is always taken positively when asked how he responds to such viewer concerns and recurring online rumours.

“Jo darshak hai... jab mujhe koi personal milte hain aur kuch bhi show par kuch kahaniyon ki baat karte hain, to main unko bahut positively leta hoon. Kyunki darshak hi hamara hai sab kuch. Show unki khushiyon ke liye bana hai [The viewers… whenever I meet someone personally and they talk about the show or its storylines, I take it very positively. Because the viewers are everything to us. The show is made for their happiness."] he shared.

He also clarified why some episodes might seem slower-paced and discussed the practical limitations of producing a show that airs six days a week.

“Poore week mein chhey din, sirf Sunday nahi aata hai. Kabhi-kabhi darshak humko bolte hain ki bhai episode kheench lete ho... to aisa nahi hota hai. Aur unko kya jaldi climax dekhna hai? Ghar mein bhi khana saathon din ekdum ek hi taste ka nahi banta hai, [There are six days in a week; only Sunday is off. Sometimes viewers say we drag the episodes, but that’s not true. They want the climax quickly, but even at home, you don’t eat the same flavour every day for seven days, right?” — A clever response from the makers of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah on pacing their storylines.]" he said.

“Jo false speculation hai... kuch log negative-negative baatein karte hain... main bilkul bhi dhyan nahi deta hoon. [Regarding false speculation... some people talk negative-negative things... I don’t pay any attention to it at all."] He concluded.

At the end of the discussion, he reiterated the show's strength stating that Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah is not reliant on any one character or performer. The show will keep entertaining audiences of all ages as long as the storytelling is compelling.
