Dharmendra, Sunny Deol, and Bobby Deol are all set to reunite once again in the highly anticipated sequel to the 2007 film, Apne. The film was initially announced in November 2020, and after facing multiple delays, it seems like the film has finally received an update.
In a recent interview with News18 Showsha, director Anil Sharma shared an exciting update. He said, “Apne 2 is definitely happening. The scripting is complete. I have too many scripts with me right now, and I’m trying to make sure I can do them all.”
The director did add that the project might not be his immediate follow-up to ‘Vanvaas,’ as he is currently balancing Gadar 3, an action movie starring his son Utkarsh Sharma, with a love story he has been eager to make for a while.
Anil Sharma recalls that it only took two hours for the Deol trio to agree to his story about Apne when he first approached them.
The director said, “It wasn’t difficult to convince them. All three wanted to do a film together, and they wanted me to make it. The day I got the story of Apne, they were overjoyed. When I narrated it to Dharam ji, he had tears in his eyes. When Bobby heard the script, he hugged me.”
Anil Sharma further added, “When Sunny heard that his father and his brother had agreed to do the film, he also got interested. He heard their feedback on the script, then heard it and immediately said yes. My relationship with the Deols is great, even off-screen. We’ve that bond wherein we can confide in each other. Humaare beech bahot pyaar aur mohabbat hai.”
For the unversed, Apne was released in 2007 and also starred Kiron Kher, Shilpa Shetty and Katrina Kaif in the key roles. The film centres on a father who, despite his best efforts, was unable to realise his dream of seeing his sons win boxing titles. His older son chooses to carry out his father's dream after his younger son is hurt in the ring.
