After being questioned by the Mumbai Police's Economic Offences Wing (EOW) recently, actor and former model Dino Morea has petitioned the court for anticipatory bail.

As per a report in News 18, his legal move comes as the investigation intensifies into the Rs 65 crore Mithi River desilting scam—an alleged financial scandal tied to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) flood management efforts.

The scam centres on inflated costs related to the rental of silt pusher machines and dredging equipment intended to clean the Mithi River, a crucial flood control channel in the city.

EOW officials claim that some contractors and local authorities conspired to inflate rental prices, causing enormous losses to the public coffers. Contractors and middlemen suspected of being key players in the fraudulent transactions have already been arrested in a number of cases.

Dino Morea was called in by the EOW as part of the expanding investigation after investigators allegedly tracked down several phone conversations between him, his brother Santino Morea, and one of the primary suspects, Ketan Kadam.

Now, a thorough analysis is being conducted to determine the nature and importance of these calls. Officials are attempting to ascertain whether these discussions indicate any direct involvement or knowledge of the financial irregularities, according to a quote from The Free Press Journal.

Despite the legal cloud, Dino Morea remains active on the professional front. He is currently appearing in the Netflix web series The Royals, which premiered earlier this month and has received a fair amount of attention from audiences.

Known for his breakout performance in Raaz (2002) opposite Bipasha Basu, Morea first entered the industry with Pyaar Mein Kabhi Kabhi in 1999 and has since featured in several notable projects.

Next up, he is part of the high-profile ensemble cast of Housefull 5, directed by Tarun Mansukhani and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala. The star-studded comedy, featuring Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Sanjay Dutt, and others, is scheduled for theatrical release on 6 June 2025.
