On New Year’s Day, an inspiring meeting took place at the Prime Minister’s residence, where renowned Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh and Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in a thoughtful discussion about transforming India into a global center for music and entertainment. The conversation, which was shared through a video on PM Modi's official YouTube channel, has generated significant excitement and anticipation for the upcoming Waves Summit 2025.
Diljit Dosanjh suggested the concept of hosting a global music festival to highlight India’s exceptional talent, drawing inspiration from renowned international events such as Coachella. “Even if we’re sitting at a dhaba in Rajasthan and someone sings melodiously, their art rivals that of professional performers. India has such immense, untapped talent,” he remarked, emphasising the potential for India to host an event that draws audiences from across the globe.
At that moment, PM Modi shared his vision, saying, "I have a dream." He then went on to elaborate further. “I have been thinking about it for many years, but now I am doing it. (The) Waves (Summit). This is my proposition. Such a large country and the largest number of films are made in this country (Diljit expresses his concurrence). We have the largest creative industry here (Diljit repeats the words in agreement). So I am creating a big movement called WAVES,” he said.
Diljit listened, visibly in awe as PM Modi narrated how Diljit Dosanjh’s dream of India becoming a world musical stage will come soon true. “I am getting the world’s creative talents here (In India) during April (2025). Now the centre of the world’s creativity will be India."

PM Modi shared a story from his meeting with Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel, where he explained how music is deeply woven into the fabric of India’s daily life. He highlighted that there are musical notes (Raaga) for every moment of the day, from sunrise to sunset.
The Waves World Summit 2025, set to take place in April, is designed to establish India as a global center for creativity and collaboration. Drawing inspiration from prestigious events like the World Economic Forum in Davos, the summit will bring together music, arts, and cultural dialogues. In his final 'Mann Ki Baat' radio address of 2024, delivered on December 29, PM Modi announced that India would host the WAVES Summit, marking a significant milestone for the country's cultural and creative aspirations.
