The upcoming Bollywood film Dhadak 2 starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, is facing problems with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) because of how it shows caste discrimination as per reports of Bollywood Hungama. This is causing a potential delay in the film's release.
The movie, which was supposed to come out in November 2024, was pushed to 2025. There were rumours that it would hit theaters during the Holi weekend in March. However, with Holi just a few weeks away, the film's promotional activities haven't started yet.
According to reports, the CBFC is concerned about certain scenes and dialogues in Dhadak 2 that deal with caste issues. The board members liked the film but are unsure about what rating to give it and whether any scenes need to be cut.
A source said that the filmmakers are waiting for the CBFC to give the film its certification before they start promoting it. If the film gets cleared, it will release on March 14 as planned. If not, the release might be postponed.
It's interesting to note that "Dhadak 2" is a remake of the Tamil film "Pariyerum Perumal," which didn't have any problems getting certified. This has led to questions about why the Hindi version is facing difficulties.
The film's motion poster hinted at its caste-based theme with the tagline, "Ek tha raja, ek thi rani. Jaat alag thi, khatam kahani," which translates to "There was a king, there was a queen. Their castes were different, the story ended." The background also featured "Dalit Lives Matter," further emphasizing the film's social message.
The first "Dhadak" film, starring Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter, also explored a similar theme of love affected by caste differences. It was a remake of the Marathi film "Sairat." The issue with the second film highlights the sensitivity of the topic, and the care that the CBFC takes when dealing with such social issues.
