Deepika Padukone trolled for her showstopper look

Deepika Padukone’s return to the fashion spotlight this weekend as the showstopper for Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s 25th-anniversary show did not go as expected, with many netizens expressing disappointment with her look.

The Bollywood actress, who had been largely out of the public eye since the birth of her daughter Dua Padukone Singh, made her grand comeback at the Jio Convention Centre in Mumbai. As fans excitedly awaited her return, some were thrilled to see her, while others were quick to criticize her outfit.

Deepika walked the ramp wearing a monochrome white ensemble consisting of tailored pants paired with an oversized trench coat. Her look was completed with oversized glasses, layered necklaces, and a bold hairdo. However, what was meant to be a striking fashion statement quickly turned into an unexpected source of online critique.

One user shared their discontent by stating, “Imagine if someone can make DP who’s a super model look pathetic!” Another person on social media wondered aloud, “Why did he dress her like Desi Madonna….” The comparisons did not stop there, as a few others noted the resemblance to the 1980s pop icon, with one comment reading, “What in The Godfather is this? It’s also giving 80s Madonna.” Another user simply wrote, “Cartoon lag rahi h,” implying that the look felt cartoonish rather than chic.

While Deepika Padukone has historically been a favorite when it comes to wearing Sabyasachi creations, this time, many seemed to feel that the ensemble didn’t quite hit the mark. A comment that resonated with many expressed a sense of unmet expectation: “Didn't meet my expectations, I thought he would dress her better, but still she's looking good.” Clearly, there was a disconnect between what fans anticipated and what was delivered on the ramp.

Interestingly, a few pointed out that Deepika’s outfit had a quirky vibe similar to that of her husband, Ranveer Singh, known for his bold and often unconventional fashion choices. “This is Ranveer Singh's female version,” one user wrote, while another quipped, “Female Ranveer Singh she nailed it.” Whether this comparison was a compliment or critique is up for interpretation, but it did suggest that the outfit was quite a departure from the glamorous, polished looks Deepika typically sports.

In stark contrast to the mixed reactions surrounding Deepika’s outfit, Alia Bhatt, who also attended the show, received a wave of admiration for her appearance.

Alia wore a black Sabyasachi saree and looked “pure royalty” in her embellished blouse, with many fans pouring praise on her for her elegant and refined look.
