Dadasaheb Phalke's grandson Chandrashekhar Pusalkar supports Aamir Khan for biopic, says "S.S. Rajamouli never contacted me"

Aamir Khan to star in Dadasaheb Phalke biopic

Bollywood actor Aamir Khan, who is gearing up for the upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par, recently announced his latest collaboration with Rajkumar Hirani for a biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke, the ‘father of Indian cinema’. The actor and the filmmaker are reuniting after 11 years.

However, Dadasaheb Phalke's grandson Chandrashekhar Srikrishna Pusalkar had expressed displeasure when SS Rajamouli announced a biopic on Phalke in 2023 and that Jr NTR was rumoured to play the lead.

Meanwhile, Chandrashekar has a totally opposite reaction to Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani's biopic announcement and revealed that their assistant producer, Hindukush Bharadwaj, had been in contact with him for three years.

He shared, “Aamir-Hirani’s team worked hard to gain trust. Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani’s project was a surprise for me too. I just got to know that they have tied up, but their assistant producer, Hindukush Bhardwaj, has been in touch with me for the last three years. He used to come to meet me again and again, do research, and ask for details. I told him clearly, you guys are working honestly, you go ahead, I have no objection.”

Chandrashekhar praised Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani's team for "working hard to gain their trust." He was pleased Aamir would play Dadasaheb Phalke, citing Aamir's seriousness and honesty. Chandrashekhar also suggested casting Vidya Balan as his grandmother, Saraswatibai Phalke.

Meanwhile, during a previous interview with Amar Ujala, Chandrashekhar expressed his disappointment when he was asked about the biopic by Rajamouli and claimed that the filmmaker never discussed the project with him.

Chandrashekhar said, “I have been hearing discussions about Rajamouli's project, but he never contacted me for it. No one spoke to me on behalf of Rajamouli. If someone is making a film on Phalke ji, then at least the family should be talked to. The family cannot be ignored, it’s we who know the real stories.”

For the unversed, Aamir and Rajkumar are expected to start the biopic’s preparation after the release of Sitaare Zameen Par.
