Comedian Munawar Faruqui has landed himself in legal trouble following a complaint against his show Hafta Vasooli, which streamed on JioHotstar. The complaint alleges that the show has hurt religious sentiments and promotes obscenity. Advocate Amita Sachdevashared a copy of the complaint on X (formerly Twitter), demanding action against the comedian.
Allegations and Legal Action
The complaint requests an FIR against Munawar Faruqui under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 196, 299, and 353, along with relevant sections of the IT Act. According to the complainant, the show insults multiple religions, violates cultural values, and negatively influences young minds and society.
We demand an immediate ban on #HaftaVasooli airing on Jio Hotstar! In this show @munawar uses foul language, which is unacceptable for public viewing. It sinks moral values. Streaming platforms must act responsibly! @JioHotstar @MIB_India #JioHotstar_Ban_HaftaVasooli pic.twitter.com/NZpvlUtiOQ

Advocate Amita Sachdeva, in her post, described Munawar Faruqui as a “habitual offender” and stated that the complaint has been emailed to the authorities. Additionally, she mentioned that a physical submission of the complaint would be made soon. She warned that if no action is taken, she will approach the court to ensure justice prevails.
Hindu Janajagruti Samiti Demands Ban
The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, a right-wing organization, has also voiced its opposition to Hafta Vasooli. The group has demanded an immediate ban on the show, citing the use of foul language that is unacceptable for public viewing. Their official post on X states that the show “sinks moral values” and urged streaming platforms to act responsibly in regulating content.
Previous Controversies
This is not the first time Munawar Faruqui has faced legal issues for his content. The comedian has previously been arrested and had multiple shows canceled due to allegations of hurting religious sentiments.
Additionally, the controversy surrounding Hafta Vasooli comes after Ranveer Allahbadia’s recent remarks on India’s Got Latent, where his comments on ‘parental sex’ sparked widespread outrage. Several FIRs have been filed against Ranveer and other influencers involved in that discussion.
What’s Next?
With multiple demands for a ban on Hafta Vasooli, it remains to be seen how JioHotstar and legal authorities will respond. Munawar Faruqui has not yet made a public statement regarding the complaint. If the authorities proceed with legal action, this could mark another major controversy in India’s OTT content regulations.
