The crowd at Coldplay’s Mumbai concert on Saturday evening was treated to an unexpected moment when lead singer Chris Martin gave a special shoutout to Indian cricketer Jasprit Bumrah. The concert, held at the Dr DY Patil Stadium, had fans cheering as Martin acknowledged the star pacer during the band’s performance of their hit track Sky Full of Stars.
During the song, Chris Martin paused and surprised fans by mentioning Bumrah. Amid loud cheers from the audience, he humorously remarked, “Hold on, we have to finish the show because Jasprit Bumrah wants to come and play backstage.” The crowd erupted into chants of “Bumrah, Bumrah,” which Martin joined enthusiastically, adding, “He says he needs to bowl at me now. We’ll ask him to wait 15 minutes.”
Jasprit Bumrah, widely regarded as one of the world’s best all-format bowlers, has amassed a massive fanbase due to his stellar performances on the cricket field. His 32-wicket haul in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia earned him the Player of the Series title.

As fans celebrated the mention of Bumrah at the concert, the pacer was simultaneously making headlines in the cricket world. Named in India’s 15-member squad for the Champions Trophy and the upcoming ODI series against England, Bumrah’s availability remains subject to fitness.
Coldplay’s Mumbai performance marked the start of their highly anticipated India tour, with further concerts scheduled at the DY Patil Stadium and Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. The band will perform two more shows at DY Patil Stadium on January 19 and 21 before heading to Ahmedabad for back-to-back performances on January 25 and 26 at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
