Actor and former K-pop idol Choi Jung-Won has publicly addressed the allegations of stalking and threats involving a woman, calling the claims “a misunderstanding.” The 42-year-old star, best known for his roles in She Would Never Know, The Time We Were Not in Love, and Love Alert, broke his silence with a lengthy statement after news surfaced that he had been booked on stalking charges.
On August 19, Korean media reported that Choi was under police investigation for violating the law on punishment for stalking crimes. Authorities claimed he visited a woman’s residence armed with a weapon. In response, the court approved emergency protection measures, ordering Choi to remain at least 100 meters away from the woman’s home and banning him from contacting her through any form of telecommunications. Violating these restrictions could result in a fine of up to 10 million KRW.
While the case remains under investigation, Choi has strongly refuted the reports. He explained that the incident occurred amid a breakup dispute with his girlfriend and stressed that he never carried a weapon.
On August 20, Choi took to Instagram to share his version of events.
“The report released yesterday was about a personal conflict between my girlfriend and me, and it was essentially a minor quarrel that escalated into a misunderstanding,” he wrote. “The claim that I threatened her with a weapon or that I engaged in stalking is completely false. Both my girlfriend and I firmly deny those allegations.”

Choi expressed regret over the situation, acknowledging that the quarrel had been misinterpreted and led to troubling headlines. He emphasized that he would take firm legal action against false information. “I sincerely apologize that my personal life caused misunderstanding,” he added, promising to act more responsibly in the future.
This is not the first time the singer-turned-actor has been embroiled in controversy. In December 2022, Choi was accused of having an affair with a married woman. The woman’s husband filed a lawsuit seeking 100 million KRW in damages, though Choi denied the claims and countersued for defamation and intimidation.
As the current case unfolds, public attention remains fixed on Choi’s legal battle and the veracity of the accusations.
