Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay recently revealed that he had surgery to remove a type of skin cancer called basal cell carcinoma.
The famous chef thanked the medical staff for identifying and treating the condition in a timely manner by posting pictures of his sutured face on Instagram.
In the caption, he also urged everyone to always use sunscreen. He wrote, "Grateful and so appreciative for the incredible team at The Skin Associates and their fast reactive work on removing this Basal Cell Carcinoma, thank you ! Please don't forget your sunscreen this weekend. I promise you it's not a face lift! I'd need a refund..."
Several fans and friends wished him speedy recovery in the comment section of the post. One user wrote, "Heal quickly Chef and thank you for bringing awareness to all of us." Another fan commented, "Glad it was caught early, speedy recovery to you." A comment also read, "So glad you are safe and thanks for the reminder!"

The Mayo Clinic states that basal cell carcinoma is a kind of skin cancer that starts in the basal cells, which are cells found within the skin.
It usually shows up on sun-exposed areas like the head and neck. Long-term exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from sunlight is typically the cause of this kind of cancer.
