Malayalam actor and politician M Mukesh is under scrutiny again after the filing of a second chargesheet in a sexual assault case. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been investigating the case, which came to light following the Hema Committee report that examined harassment in the Malayalam film industry.

Officials submitted the latest chargesheet at the Ernakulam Judicial Magistrate Court, presenting digital evidence such as emails and WhatsApp messages, along with witness testimonies and circumstantial proof.

This new development comes in the wake of an earlier chargesheet filed at the Wadakkancherry court in a related case.

The investigation team heavily relied on digital evidence in both instances. The allegations against Mukesh stem from a complaint by actress Minu Muneer. She accused the actor of inappropriate behavior, claiming he made demands while promising her membership in the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). The actress further stated that other prominent figures in the industry had also harassed her.

The FIR against Mukesh includes severe charges under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), such as Section 376 for rape, Section 354 for outraging a woman’s modesty, and Section 509 for insulting a woman with words or gestures. Mukesh’s lawyer had previously denied the allegations, asserting that his client was cooperating with the police investigation and that the claims lacked substance.

Minu Muneer also shared other troubling experiences involving well-known actors. These accusations have shaken the Malayalam film industry, drawing attention to issues of power dynamics and harassment. The case has reignited conversations about the safety of women in the entertainment sector and the need for systemic change.
