There is some relief for Tamil actress Nayanthara as producers of her hit film Chandramukhi issued clarification that they haven't demanded Rs 5 crore from the actress for use of footage in her Netflix documentary.

Sivaji Productions has shared the NOC they had issued to Nayanthara allowing her to use the footage from the 2005 film Chandramukhi. The NOC was shared a day after reports suggested that the makers have sued Nayanthara for Rs 5 crore.

Earlier, Tamil actor Dhanush had also sent a legal notice to Nayanthara, her husband Vignesh Shivan, and Netflix India on which the documentary is streaming, seeking Rs 10 crore for the use of unauthorised footage from his production Naanum Rowdy Dhaan (2015).

Tamil film industry tracker Manobala Vijayabalan shared the NOC issued by Sivaji Productions to Nayanthara on his X handle which claimed, “This is to certify that Sivaji Productions has no objection to the use of the following footage in the Netflix documentary “Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale.”

“We confirm that Rowdy Pictures has been granted permission to use, reproduce, distribute, and/or sub-license the aforementioned video footage exclusively for use in the Netflix series titled “Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale. We further declare that we shall hold Rowdy Pictures (along with affiliates, licensees/sub-licensees, and assigns) harmless from any claims and/or disputes arising out of the use of the video footage as authorized under the certificate/letter,” it further stated.

Nayanthara and her husband and filmmaker Vignesh Shivan own the Rowdy Pictures. It only produced the documentary on Nayanthara's life, Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale.

The documentary streamed on Netflix India in November 2023.

Earlier legal notice from Dhanush

Nayanthara had slammed her former co-star Dhanush for not giving her permission to use footage from her 2015 Tamil movie Naanum Rowdy Dhaan. She had also written on her social media account and criticised Dhanush, who was the producer of Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, for sending a legal notice demanding Rs 10 crore in damages for the inclusion of a three-second behind-the-scenes clip from the film.
