During a recent roundtable discussion, filmmaker Boney Kapoor cited Jr NTR as an example to emphasize that a film's success relies on "good cinema" rather than star power. Kapoor referred to Jr NTR as a "new face," but actor Siddharth and Telugu producer Naga Vamsi quickly corrected him, pointing out that Jr NTR is, in fact, one of the biggest superstars in the South Indian film industry. The correction sparked a lively conversation, with the duo highlighting Jr NTR's immense popularity and influence, which extends far beyond just being a rising talent.
In a roundtable interview with Galatta India, Boney Kapoor spoke about how good cinema transcends language barriers and is embraced universally across the country. He referenced the 1981 film Ek Duuje Ke Liye as an example, highlighting its widespread appeal and the fact that it resonated with audiences regardless of language or region.
When Siddharth questioned whether such a phenomenon could happen today, considering that director K Balachander and actor Kamal Haasan were relatively unknown to Northern audiences despite their popularity in the South, Boney Kapoor responded by mentioning Jr NTR. He suggested that Jr NTR's widespread recognition and success could help bridge the gap between regional audiences, making it possible for a South Indian film to achieve pan-Indian appeal today.
When the Rang De Basanti actor asked whether a "new face" and "new director" duo would be accepted in the North today, Boney Kapoor responded, "Yes, why has Aditya Chopra taken Tarak (Jr NTR) for his film (War 2)?" Naga Vamsi corrected him that Jr NTR isn't a 'new face'.
Siddharth interrupted and said, "You are talking about the biggest superstar of this (south) industry working with the biggest superstar (Hrithik Roshan) of this (north) industry, working with the biggest producer in India."
