Veteran actress Kamini Kaushal, 98, passed away at her Mumbai home Thursday night, leaving the Indian film industry in mourning.

Significantly, she was veteran actor Dharmendra's first co-star, a relationship the actor cherished by sharing a heartfelt old photo of them together from their very first encounter years ago.

Dharmendra shared a cute photo from his first encounter with Kamini on Instagram in 2021.

In the black-and-white photo, Dharmendra and Kamini were seen grinning warmly at one another while their hands were shaking.

Dharmendra captioned the post as, "Meri zindagi ki, Pehli film SHAHEED ki heroine Kamini Kaushal ke saath pehli mulaqat ki pehli tasvir… Donon ke chehron par muskurahat… ek pyaar bhari introduction…(The first picture of my first meeting with Kamini Kaushal, the heroine of the very first film of my life, Shaheed… A smile on both our faces… a warm and loving introduction)."

As a result of their on-screen chemistry, fans were left with unforgettable cinematic moments in movies like Shaheed, Aadmi Aur Insaan, Yakeen, and Ishq Par Zor Nahin.

The tragic news was confirmed by a close family friend, capping an extraordinary life that lasted almost a century and made a lasting impression on Hindi cinema.

Kamini Kaushal's cinematic career was nothing short of remarkable. She became one of Bollywood's legends by captivating audiences with her poise, grace, and subtle performances.

Sharing a glimpse into her passing, family associate Sajan Narain told PTI, “She died at her Mumbai home late on Thursday night. She would have turned 99 in February.”

While the cause of her death has not been disclosed, Kamini Kaushal leaves behind her three sons, Shravan, Vidur, and Rahul Sood, who will continue to carry forward her legacy of courage, creativity, and grace.

The timing of this loss comes amidst concern for Dharmendra, who was recently admitted to Breach Candy Hospital. Following erroneous online reports of his passing earlier this week, his wife Hema Malini and daughter Esha Deol reassured fans that the actor was still alive and responding favourably to treatment.

By Wednesday, 12 November, doctors confirmed he had been discharged, with his family, including sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, taking him home to recuperate in the comfort of familiar surroundings. Fans continue to send their prayers for his speedy recovery.
