Some friendships feel destined from the start — the kind that survive school fights, silly mistakes, and a lifetime’s worth of memories.
That’s exactly the kind of bond Nishaanchi actress Vedika shares with Sara Ali Khan, a friendship that has grown and evolved for nearly three decades. Recently, Vedika opened up about their relationship, and the stories she shared are the kind that instantly make you smile.
Talking about Sara, Vedika didn’t hold back on the affection. She described her not just as an old schoolmate, but someone who has practically been family to her since childhood. “So Sara is my life’s first friend. We were in school together. Sara is like a sister to me. I tell everyone that there is a friend and a family. We have been friends for 28 years. She is like a sister to me. We fight a lot. One time she fractured my finger. I used to bite her because she was elder to me. She was strong. I didn’t have any other option — I used to bite her,” Vedika shared, laughing as she remembered their chaotic little battles.
But the memory that truly captures the heart of their friendship is the hilarious story from a fun fair they participated in as kids — a story that Vedika still tells with equal parts fondness and disbelief.
The two had spent weeks preparing handmade jewellery for their stall, choosing beads and clasps from Bandra’s Cheap Jack and crafting pieces with childish dedication. While Vedika was in charge of selling, Sara proudly took over the cash counter.
And then came the twist.
“We sold one piece for ₹20 and one for ₹50. She was handling the cash register and I was selling. In the evening, all the money went missing. She took out all the money from the food stall and ate all the ice cream! There was no money left. I started crying thinking where the money went. My mom said, ‘What do you want from the money? We will buy it.’ She had wasted all the money. This is all because of which we fight.”
Even after 28 years, Vedika and Sara are still each other’s constants, still laughing over the same old stories, and still proving that childhood friendships really can last a lifetime.
