Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna’s much awaited horror comedy Thamma hit theatres this Diwali. The movie dives headfirst into the vampire genre while wrapping it in a romance that’s both bloody and bold.
Thamma, which release on October 21, is already stirring strong reactions online, with fans lighting up X (formerly Twitter) with cheers.
Fans have praised Rashmika Mandanna’s powerful screen presence. One fan wrote, “Every era has a ruler. This one belongs to her. @iamRashmika commands the screen with sheer power in #Thamma — theatres are erupting! Book your seats and join the storm!” One fan wrote, “Every era has a ruler. Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, Thamma marks the fifth installment in Maddock Films’ ever-expanding horror-comedy universe. Following Stree, Bhediya, Munjya, and Stree 2, this film continues the studio’s quirky blend of chills and chuckles, this time placing Ayushmann’s character at the heart of a vampire transformation that comes with emotional baggage — and a lot of blood.
Another viewer shared a glowing review of the film’s tone and entertainment value, "Thamma is the kind of movie that’s just plain fun to watch. Thamma is a clean, crowd-pleasing entertainer — the kind of film that gives you chills, makes you laugh, and leaves you smiling by the end. It’s an ideal Diwali watch that feels both refreshing and familiar at once."

Meanwhile, some are calling it the "Best movie for Diwali" and applauding a surprise cameo, which seems to have caught viewers off guard — in a good way.

Rashmika Mandanna plays his love interest, and the two share a chemistry that seems to be one of the film’s highlights — even among its critics. As the story unfolds, Ayushmann’s vampire finds his new life colliding with his deepening affection for Rashmika’s character. But, as with most horror-comedies, love isn’t the only thing haunting them. Enter Nawazuddin Siddiqui, playing a villain with his signature flair.
One review noted, "Thamma is a well-packaged entertainer, but the climax scene feels overdone. Still, the crossover elements — like tying in Bhediya and Sarkata — keep things interesting."

THAMMA is a well-packaged entertainer that reinforces why the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe continues to be a franchise worth tracking. Crossover of Bhediya & Sarkata makes things interesting moving forward 🤞 @ayushmannk@iamRashmika

One person mentioned, "#Thamma Review First half sets up Bettal’s origin, rules, and Yakshashan’s rebellion. Aayushmann–Rashmika pair shines, Paresh Rawal brings solid comedy. Not full horror, more a rom-com-horror. Bhediya transformation Strong MHCU entry, teases Bhediya 2. 86/100 #MHCU"

This interconnection to other films in the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe is certainly a talking point. For fans who’ve followed the franchise since Stree, Thamma offers more than just a standalone experience — it promises continuity and deeper storytelling within an increasingly supernatural cinematic world.
Produced by Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik, Thamma seems to reaffirm Maddock’s commitment to building a desi horror-comedy universe — with heart, humour, and a generous splash of the supernatural.
