Bobby Deol and Tanya Deol have been married for almost three decades, and their love story is as compelling as any Bollywood movie. The couple's journey together has been nothing short of magical since they married in 1996.
In a throwback interview with Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla, Tanya revealed that she was at Trattoria with her brother and friends when Bobby first saw her.
She recalled, "Bobby knew one of them. And then we bumped into each other a couple of times at night. I didn't say hello to him when I saw him because I didn't know him. I didn't bother. It didn't matter."
However, Bobby's interest only increased, despite Tanya's lack of interest. They met again at Chunky Panday's Diwali celebration.
Tanya continued, "Bobby came and he sat and played cards at the same table. He kept losing to me but he wouldn't pay me. He said, 'I will take you out for a meal. I said, 'What's wrong with this guy?''
She further revealed that Bobby called her late at night after the party. She said, "It was some absurd hour at night and I was fast asleep. I picked up the call without knowing who it was and 1 said, will call you tomorrow.'"
Tanya asked her friends the following day because she had no idea who had called. "The next day, I went and asked all of my friends whether they were the ones who called me and they all said no. He thought I was this snooty girl,” said Tanya.
Tanya further recalled, "And this time we spoke. And we spoke for like seven to eight hours that night."
Tanya realised that she was falling love with Bobby after the duo continuously talked for a week.
She said, "It was like a fairytale. We didn't even go on a date, we kept attending parties. This one night, he insisted to drop me home and at my door, he asked me to marry him."
Tanya told her mother about Bobby's proposal since her father was not in town. She recalled that her mother wanted to meet him, and it took them just 15 minutes to connect and act as if they had known each other for ages.
Tanya added that this instant connection made her feel comfortable about taking the next step in their relationship. She also shared how nervous she had felt when meeting Dharmendra and Prakash Kaur at the age of 19.
She said, "I was all of 19-really quite nervous. I was dressed in a salwar-kameez. His parents were really warm and made me feel very comfortable, and at ease. They welcomed me with open arms."
The couple married in a massive celebration six months after meeting Bobby’s parents.
Tanya said, "Initially, it was Bobby and me and eventually the family took over and we were just sidelined. We had a huge wedding. We had about 10,000 people."
The couple now shares two sons, Aryaman and Dharam.
