The Patiala Court in Delhi has issued a notice on an application filed by Mandhira Kapur Smith, who has sought directions for the production of certain documents from Priya Sachdev Kapur in relation to an ongoing defamation complaint.
Mandhira Kapur Smith, the sister of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur, appeared before the court and submitted her reply to the defamation complaint that had been filed by Priya Sachdev Kapur. Along with the reply, she also moved an application requesting the court to direct the complainant to produce specific documents, ANI reported.
The matter was taken up by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Siddhant Sihag, who heard the preliminary submissions regarding the application. After considering the arguments at this stage, the court scheduled the next hearing and further arguments for March 30.
Speaking briefly to ANI outside the courtroom following the proceedings, Mandhira Kapur Smith addressed the case and said, "All I can say is the truth will come out and I stand by that."
During the hearing, the court also allowed time for the counsel representing the proposed accused, Pooja Chaudhary, to submit a reply in the matter.
Senior Advocate Maninder Singh, appearing on behalf of Priya Sachdev Kapur, argued before the court that the application filed by Mandhira Kapur Smith was not maintainable at the current stage of the proceedings. He informed the court that he did not wish to submit a written reply to the application at the moment but would reserve his right to present legal arguments on the matter.
Mandhira Kapur Smith had appeared before the court in response to a notice that had been issued to her during the previous hearing. In compliance with the court’s direction, she filed her formal reply to the defamation complaint initiated by Priya Sachdev Kapur.
Her counsel, Amit Prasad, subsequently filed the reply along with the application seeking the production of documents. In the application, it was stated that the alleged defamatory remarks should not be examined in isolation but should instead be considered within the broader context in which they were made. The application was opposed by Priya Sachdev Kapur’s legal counsel.
The defamation proceedings arise in the backdrop of recent developments in related legal matters. Earlier, the court had sought a response from actor Karisma Kapoor after Priya Sachdev Kapur filed a plea requesting certified copies of court records related to divorce proceedings involving the late industrialist Sunjay Kapur.
Following these developments, Mandhira Kapur Smith had made certain remarks to the media questioning Priya Kapur’s actions and intentions.

She had stated that if her brother had intended to disclose particular information, he would have done so during the course of the marriage. She also remarked that divorce proceedings are generally confidential in nature, especially when children are involved.
Priya Sachdev Kapur has alleged that these statements form part of the defamatory content against her. She subsequently approached the court through Senior Advocate Maninder Singh, seeking criminal action for what she claims has caused harm to her reputation.
