Sonakshi Sinha is once again opening up about her transformative fitness journey, one that began long before her Bollywood debut and continues to inspire thousands today.
The actress, who weighed over 95 kilos before entering the industry with Dabangg in 2010, shared new insights into the real reasons behind her weight loss and the discipline it took to shed nearly 30 kilos.
Speaking on Bharti Singh and Haarsh Limbachiyaa’s podcast, the actress made it clear that her motivation had nothing to do with glamour or fitting into Bollywood’s beauty mould. “Weight loss was very difficult for me because I was always an overweight kid," she admitted, recalling her early struggles.
Sona revealed that the turning point came during her college years. “It took me 2.5 years (to lose weight). I realised it only during my college." But what truly pushed her to take health seriously was a sobering moment at the gym. “I didn’t do it for vanity or to become an actor. I did it for health reasons. I was 18 and I couldn’t run on the treadmill for more than 30 seconds. That struck me once very badly. And I was like, I don’t want to live this unhealthy life."
The actress went on to detail the sheer effort behind her transformation. “I used to go to the gym. I used to do cardio, weight training, and I tried a variety of things. I used to do yoga. Eventually, I started Pilates," she shared.
Even as a self-confessed foodie, Sonakshi stressed that balance has been the key to maintaining her fitness. “I have always maintained a healthy body image. I don’t want to be someone who can’t inspire other girls. I didn’t have that role model when I was growing up. Your health and happiness are everything that matters." Her approach, she emphasized, is more about strength-building than chasing unrealistic weight goals.
Over the years, Sonakshi has consistently championed fitness, often giving fans a glimpse into her intense workout routines. In a 2018 interview with Vogue India, she revealed that her go-to regimen includes 30 minutes on the Stairmaster and 20–25 minutes of brisk walking.

Pilates remains a favourite, thanks to its versatility and impact on her endurance and core strength. “There are thousands of exercises that you can do on those machines… I love working out on the Pilates reformer," she said.
Her diet follows the same clean and practical pattern. Focusing on protein-rich meals, she avoids sugar and fried foods, keeps carbs limited to lunchtime, and reserves bread only “in the form of a pizza.” For snacks, she prefers almonds, walnuts, or bananas.
