Veteran Marathi actor Girish Oak confirmed that he had met Arya at RA Studio in Powai a day before the incident.

Rohit Arya, the man who was shot dead by Mumbai Police after a terrifying hostage crisis at a Powai studio, had reportedly been in contact with several Marathi film industry members just days before the tragedy.

Veteran Marathi actor Girish Oak confirmed that he had met Arya at RA Studio in Powai a day before the incident.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, Oak said, “A person who had worked with me earlier contacted me on Arya’s behalf for a role in his film. I was told Arya had produced films before, so I agreed to meet him.”

Strangely enough, one of Arya's suggested movie concepts involved a hostage situation, which was strikingly similar to the actual incident that transpired later. The October 29 meeting, according to Girish, was entirely typical.

“We discussed a project based on a social cause. I saw many children at the studio and was told they were attending a workshop. The kids even posed for a group photo with me, and some parents took selfies. I left around noon,” he recalled.

On social media, actor Ruchita Jadhav also disclosed that Arya had contacted her a few weeks prior regarding a film that was based on a hostage situation.

The startling event happened on October 30, 2025, when the 50-year-old director kidnapped two adults and seventeen children from RA Studio in Powai's Mahavir Classic building. Arya abruptly locked the doors and declared the kids, who were between the ages of 10 and 15, his hostages. They had come for a web series audition.

After more than an hour of negotiations with the police, Arya refused to turn himself in, arguing that he was due payment for a documentary he had produced.

Eventually, a tactical unit from the Mumbai Police’s Quick Reaction Team stormed the studio. Arya was shot during the rescue operation and later succumbed to his injuries. Fortunately, all the hostages were safely rescued without any harm.
