Ibrahim Ali Khan is stepping into a new chapter of his career with Diler, a theatrical release backed by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films.
After testing the waters with OTT releases like Nadaaniyan and Sarzameen, which didn’t quite make waves, the young actor is now putting his faith in experience, story, and second chances.
Directed by Jannat filmmaker Kunal Deshmukh, Diler marks Ibrahim’s official big-screen debut—and he’s going in with his eyes wide open. Unlike his previous projects, this time, he says, he’s been more deliberate and hands-on.
“I’ve really sat on the script this time around,” Ibrahim told Esquire India, clearly signalling a more thoughtful approach. “Kunal Deshmukh sir is a really experienced director. He’s very good and can present me well. I’m not taking shots at my previous directors, but the truth is that they are also first-time filmmakers. You have to think about that.”
There’s no bitterness in his words, just honesty. His earlier films, Nadaaniyan (directed by Shauna Gautam) and Sarzameen (helmed by Kayoze Irani), were his first forays into acting—but they came with the challenges of working with debutant directors. With Diler, Ibrahim seems to feel he’s finally in steady hands.
He also isn’t shy about backing himself. “We’re on the backfoot right now, but I know how to act—it might be a cocky thing to say but some people have it, and some don’t,” he said. “KD has really shown me the way. If I’m not comfortable with something, he would find a workaround. He always has an answer.”
At just the start of his journey, Ibrahim seems to understand both the weight of expectation and the importance of growth. He knows not everyone’s been convinced by his earlier work—and he’s okay with that. But he’s asking for a little patience.
“Give me one more chance, man. Let’s have at it,” he said with disarming honesty.
With Diler, Ibrahim isn’t just chasing box office success—he’s hoping to reintroduce himself, this time with more conviction, clarity, and perhaps, something to truly prove.
